A team of researchers from Nanyang Technological University (NTU)'s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), led by Associate Professor Gan Woon Seng, has completed a prototype system, called NTU Audio Beam System (ABS), which can project sound in a desired direction like a beam of spotlight. NTU's team used a combination of mathematical analysis, digital sound processing, and hardware and software engineering to achieve this feat and has filed for several patents in Singapore and the United States.
