An NTU research team has won the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2006 organised by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), in recognition of their research excellence on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. The team, led by Associate Professor Liu Ai Qun from NTU's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, has been working on MEMS research for the past six years. MEMS is an enabling technology that integrates mechanical structures with microelectronics, allowing the development of smart products and making possible the realization of complete systems-on-a-chip. The NTU research team had filed four patents, won 10 awards and published about 100 academic journal papers for their MEMS research in the past six years.
