Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Chew Kheng Chuan 周庆全, 51, as the Chief University Advancement Officer 首席大学推展司 with effect from 27 May 2009.
To achieve its vision of being a great global university founded on science and engineering, through academic and research excellence, it is imperative that NTU strengthens its fund-raising capabilities, develops its base of supporters and champions, and builds its brand.
The position of Chief University Advancement Officer is a newly created post to develop and strengthen the ongoing engagement with the NTU alumni, spearhead NTU’s development initiatives, and strengthen the stewardship of benefactors, donors, supporters and friends.
The Chief University Advancement Officer reports directly to President, and has leadership and management oversight of the Development Office, Alumni Affairs Office and the Corporate Communications Office.
Kheng Chuan (or “KC” as he is known to many) brings to NTU an outstanding reputation as one of Asia’s most successful fundraisers. He was the Vice-President of Endowment & Institutional Development at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where he served from 2003 to 2008, beginning as the founding director of the NUS Development Office. His earlier 17-year career in the private sector was in the field of brand consulting, marketing and corporate communications, and graphic design.
KC was the first Singaporean to be admitted to Harvard College, the undergraduate component and oldest school of Harvard University, where he graduated with an A.B. cum laude in Social Studies in 1982. KC also spent an exchange-student year at the London School of Economics, reading Sociology and Political Science. He has been the Chairman of the Harvard Alumni Interviewing Committee for Singapore since 1983. He was conferred the Hiram Hunn Memorial Schools & Scholarships Award from Harvard College, for his work in interviewing prospective students from Singapore and the region to Harvard.
KC is a long-time advocate of the arts. He is Chairman of The Substation Ltd, Director of Theatre Training and Research Space (Singapore) Ltd, a member of the Steering Committee of the National Art Gallery of Singapore and a board member of the Practice Performing Arts Centre Ltd, Singapore, a non-profit arts organisation.
With his wealth of experience and a formidable track record, KC will be able to contribute to NTU a keen strategic outlook and an understanding of best practices in the professional areas under his purview.
NTU looks forward to his contribution in joining the University’s leadership to inspire alumni, friends and supporters, as well as students, faculty and staff to build upon a worthy past and to realise its aspirations to be a great University.
